We are the Shrewsbury Lions
The Shrewsbury Lions are a junior rugby league club based in Shrewsbury. We cater for children from school year 1 and up, and help them to transition from having no rugby experience at all to playing tag rugby and eventually playing full contact rugby league.
Training
Sessions are held on the grass rugby pitches at London Road Sports Centre, Shrewsbury SY2 6PR.
Primary School ages (years 1 to 6): Sunday mornings 9.30am-10,30am.
Secondary School ages (years 7+): Thursday evenings 6.30pm-7.30pm.
Our focus is always on developing core skills through fun games, and flexibly adapting our sessions to suit every child’s confidence and physical abilities, to ensure a positive experience for all.
Our Coaches
Our coaches are all different, with diverse lives, styles and backgrounds but what is consistent is that all of them are kind, helpful, inspirational, enthusiastic and passionate about Rugby.
The Head Coach is Alex Smith who is a UKCC level 2 qualified coach, with 25 years of coaching adult and junior rugby.
Adults mixed Touch Rugby
Inspired by our young Lions, we run weekly fun social touch rugby sessions for mixed adults (14+). This minimal contact version of the sport is a fun and accessible way to enjoy rugby without getting bashed about. So whether you are brand new to rugby, want to get back into the game or just looking for a workout that’s more fun than the gym, give touch rugby a try with us.
WHERE AND WHEN: Tuesday evenings 7pm-8pm at London Road Sports Centre outdoor grass pitches, between April and Sept. £3 a session to cover pitch hire. Contact Us to request a link to join the WhatsApp Group.
